RTW #66: Literary Lovebirds

by Brandi Ziegler

A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved.

~Kurt Vonnegut

The YA Highway Road Trip Wednesday prompt is perfect for the upcoming lovefest. I’m personally a sucker for Valentine’s Day.

Who are your favorite literary couples?
You know — the ones you like by themselves, but LOVE together!

I thought about it throughout the day and came up with three specific couples I enjoyed way after reading about them.

First up: Nick and Nora Charles in Dashiell Hammett’s THE THIN MAN. My husband introduced me to this book (and hilarious movie). Nick is a mischievous former detective and Nora is his glamorous, charming wife. They always managed to get mixed up in murder investigations and be a remarkable married couple throughout the mystery.

Next: Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in Suzanne Collins’s THE HUNGER GAMES trilogy. Their struggle to love and forgive at such a young age fascinates me. Katniss is so kick-ass and Peeta is so sweet and he bakes. He’s a keeper.

And last: Sookie Stackhouse and Eric Northman in THE SOOKIE STACKHOUSE NOVELS.

Sookie is a sassy waitress living in the south with a penchant for tanning. And Eric is a blonde-haired, blue-eyed thousand-year-old Viking that owns a bar. Their passion for each other is intense, and the fact that Eric’s a vampire only increases their drama level.

So tell me: which literary couples do you love?
